TOM HODGSON
Hello! I’m Tom. I'm a writer and story consultant.
Hello! I’m Tom. I'm a writer and story consultant.
Hello! I’m Tom. I'm a writer and story consultant.
I write for film and television and, through my book ghostwriting practice Special Characters, help founders and CEOs tell their stories and share them with the world.
Prior to becoming a writer, I was a Creative Executive at Heyday Films (“PADDINGTON”, “ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD”, “HARRY POTTER”, “GRAVITY”) working across the company’s film slate, served as Creative Director of J.K. Rowling’s Pottermore (where I headed up the content and community teams), co-founded the innovation agency Fearlessly Frank, launched some of the earliest iOS apps on the App Store (including a forerunner to Docusign), and worked in-house at Samsung in a senior marketing innovation role.
Movies I have written include an adaptation of Stephen Fry’s bestselling novel “THE HIPPOPOTAMUS” (directed by John Jencks), “SEVE: THE MOVIE” (a biopic of the legendary golfer Severiano Ballesteros directed by John-Paul Davidson), I’ve done uncredited script work and rewrites on multiple projects and have TV and projects in development with companies in the UK, US and Australia. I am currently adapting Sarah Moss’s acclaimed novel COLD EARTH into a feature film and producing the project through my company Corhampton Pictures (alongside Keel Films).
In addition to developing my own film and TV projects, I oversaw commissioning for the VERO x DMC short film fund - greenlighting a slate of short films from award-winning directors including Molly Manning Walker (“HOW TO HAVE SEX”), Charlotte Regan (“SCRAPPER”) and Kibwe Tavares (“ROBOT AND SCARECROW”).
As a story consultant and keynote speaker, I have appeared onstage and on panels at creator-focused events in the US and Europe including SXSW, The London Comedy Film Festival, Universal Studios’ Celebration of Harry Potter, and produced and hosted storytelling events/masterclasses for both startups and Fortune 500 companies.
Sometimes my name appears in the credits, sometimes I’m behind the scenes as a ghostwriter.
No two projects are the same, but the red thread in all my work is adaptation; be it translating a book to screen, or helping founders and businesses communicate what they do and who they are in a way that’s easy to understand, true to them, and cuts through in an increasingly noisy world.
